Once we understand the basics of sound we continued to read articles and research more about sound and how to teach it. The first step in creating a lesson plan is to think about what the big ideas are and what you want your students to take away from the lesson. Therefore, as a group we choose the NGSS standards that linked well with sound lessons and wrote down the main ideas we wanted our students to learn. We broke up the main ideas into four lessons (four questions/big ideas) that we believed were important for our students to learn.
Before, we knew nothing about sound, now we have an outlined unit learning progression with the main ideas we want our students to learn. We had a vision of where we wanted to take our students with this unit and we were able to create four lesson plans that connect with each other that allows students to investigate and expanded their ideas about sound.

During this course we got to relearn the water cycle, only this time, I learned it right! Dr. H first had us draw out the water cycle the way we remembered learning it (drawing in blue). This is a great way for a teacher to check for students' prior knowledge. We then completed another activity teaching us about the process/journey of a rain drop and all the different places it can go. After this we went back to our seats and re-drew and added new elements to our water cycle (drawing in black).
